With its first smart Google Assistant (8 “and 10” Lenovo smart displays) Lenovo was big in size. The good and affordable Lenovo Smart Clock went on to become small in size.

A 7-inch touch screen, a less-polarizing style, and a $129 price split the difference between the newest products in the group, Lenovo Smart Display 7.

Nonetheless, why would you like the Lenovo Smart Display 7 instead of the Google Home Hub, which is similarly priced for its nest? One of the biggest reason is the bundled front-facing Lenovo Smart Display 7 with a sensor that Google’s Smart Entry level display does not have.

Although the current Google Assistant show can’t overcome the thriving Google Nest Hub Max in our list of best smart speakers, the digital panel products of Lenovo are extended into a cheaper selection.

Smart Display 7 availability and cost

The Lenovo Smart Display 7 is currently only available from B&H Photo for $129.99 USD. You can, however, but it only for $99.99 on holidays.

Lenovo Smart Display 7: Design

The Lenovo Smart Display 7 is a home computer with a display of 6.9 x 6.1x 3.3 inches. It is backed by a unifying white wedge base, which fits the edgy style Bet Lenovo with larger models. The grill of the heather-gray speaker sits at bottom under the panel while on the 8 “and 10” versions is on sides of the display. It looks alike in many ways similar to the first Echo Show in the Amazon.

The Lenovo Smart Display 7 has thick black bezels. With the unusual physical shutter toggle, the lens is placed in the middle of the top bezel. This app is great for people who are aware of privacy. The mic switch and shutter are built in separate ways, so that while the camera is protected and shut you can chat to your Google Assistant using mic switch.

Lenovo Smart Display 7: Display Review

The 1024x 600 pixel resolution of Lenovo Smart Display 7 may not sound impressive, but the lightweight touch screen works pretty good. The display looked clear and colorful if you watch videos, when navigating music or follow recipes.

Only when I tried to look at a clip from HBO’s Euphoria did I realize a consistency problem. The darkened party scenes were very difficult to see and the effect of the flashing lights in the show’s created a pixelated look.

So the small screen of the Lenovo Smart Display 7 may not be ideal to view video, but a Google Assistant smart Display card-based interface is still a multi-tasks dream. The Lenovo Smart Display 7 has a leg on Alexa’s current format, giving you access to all of the most recent commands and content on a look.

Another benefit of the Lenovo Smart Display 7 is its RGB light sensor which worked very well in changing the luminosity and tonalities of the displays to match the setting. The Lenovo Smart Display 7 is automatically combined with a yellow hue in my warmly lit kitchen.

Camera

The Lenovo Smart Display 7 has a 2-megapixel sensor, compared to the Google Nest Hub, which doesn’t have cameras at all. Lenovo’s camera can only be used for video calls for Google Duo.

The scope of the lens is not so good as the 6.5-MP Google Nest Hub Max’s, but is a bit higher than the 1-MP photographer of the Echo display 8. Once I had her help to check out video call quality in our office, my colleague’s blue hair appeared true to the color.

Smart Lenovo 7: Audio Quality

I tested if my Lenovo Smart Display 7’s twin 1.5-inch 5-Watt speakers could provide more listening than my experiments did on the Echo Show 8, but that’s not the case.

Ariana’s “Bad Idea” song didn’t sound like it should on Lenovo Smart 7. Certainly, I could hear soprano voice, but the midranges and the bass sounded empty. Nevertheless, roast potatoes sounded better in “The New” podcast and audio recipe directions. I would not call it a premium-speaker but it’s good for common use.

Google Assistant

While Google doesn’t make the Lenovo Smart Display 7, it profits from many of the best Google Assistant skills. For e.g., your smart home appliances like smart lights and smart locks can be controlled with it. And it’s perfect for calling up recipes and scheduling many oven items when it’s in the kitchen.

You can unlock YouTube videos on Lenovo Smart Display 7 using voice, as similar as with other Google Assistant displays.

Final Verdict

The Lenovo Smart Display 7 is a decent but not very good, smart display. I’m a fan of camera shutter but the speaker could sound a lot better. If you choose Alexa, the excellent speaker of the Echo Show 8, the broader display and the best capabilities of Alexa make it a better option at the same expense.

If you’re interested in Google Assistant, though, the Lenovo Smart Display 7 provides the welcoming face and embedded camera, which makes the Google Nest Hub appealing.
