Arlo Ultra Review: 4K Video and Color Vision at Night is Great

Published on September 30, 2019

The Arlo Ultra has added the latest additions and raised the standard for it Alro Ultra cameras. This is the first model of the Alro series in which we have seen Ultra-High Definition (UHD) or 4K stream and video recording. It’s also one of the most expensive cameras, priced at $ 400, but is equipped with cool technology, including color night vision, automatic zoom, built-in siren, motion tracking, 180-degree display, projector, and 1-click 911 e.t.c. It is fully wireless and can be installed without many efforts.

Features

Arlo Ultra includes cameras, SmartHub base stations, batteries, USB charger, and cable charger, magnetic holders, clips and mounting hardware. At 3.5 x 2.0 x 3.0 inches (HWD), Ultra Campo is significantly larger than Arlo Pro 2 and only much smaller than the Arlo Go cellular, but maintains Arlo’s familiar shape in white and black.

This battery is powered by a weather resistant camera that lasts between 3 and 6 months (depending on usage) before charging. The USB adapter and electric cord at the bottom of the camera requires about 3.5 hours to charge completely.  Below this is a button that allows you to remove the battery cover. On the back of the camera there is a screw hole that can be on a magnetic holder or mounted on a support frame only.

Ultra has impressive details. This technology uses HDR (High Dynamic Range) and a 4K 8-megapixel sensor for 4K video (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) to be streamed and recorded. Other 4K cameras such as Nest Cam IQ Outdoor 1080p and Vivint Outdoor Cam. This Ultra has a 180-degree wide display and 12x magnification and two-way audio and sound monitoring. To reduce noise, a microphone and front speaker are used. Two motion sensors give you a 150-degree detection area that sends push notifications and / or emails to your camera, records event videos and stores them in the cloud or on a microSD card (not included).

Night Vision

You can turn off the lights and, if you want, use both infrared night vision LEDs. You must be aware that you cannot enable 4K streaming and tracking / zooming / motion at the same time. In other words, you need to turn off 4K streaming and get 1080p streaming if you want to enable motion tracking and automatic zooming.

For Ultra, the base station must be connected to your network like other Arlo cameras. The good news is that SmartHub is connected to the previous Arlo camera. It is smaller than the original Arlo camera base station, but is equipped with wireless technology, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ArloRF, Zigbee, and Z-Wave 6.0-by-5.5 by 2.0-inch 2.0-inch (HWD) radio. Behind there are LAN ports, reset, synchronize and power connectors. When connecting the hub and all cameras attached, the LED on the front lights blue. If an error occurs, amber is strong. Flashes blue, blue when paired with the camera.

Application & Premium Packages

You can buy Arlo e911, which allows you to make calls at the touch of a button in an emergency. For example, if you contact a local authority or someone on your friends list. You simply press the siren button to prevent all intruders you want. If you need 4K video capture, the camera costs $ 1.99 per month. After the Smart Premier trial period, your video recordings or smart notifications are no longer available, unless you renew the monthly subscription fee of $ 9.99 to 10 cameras. Arlo also offers a camcorder schedule of $ 2.99 per month for 30-day storage and $ 14.99 per month for a 60-day camera schedule.

Ultra is equipped with Arlo Pro, Arlo Pro2, Arlo Q camera, the same mobile application, and the same web console. This application will open the device’s screen with the last activity thumbnail where all Arlo cameras are installed by name. Touch the camera arrow and touch the two arrows to see the full screen stream and start streaming immediately. At the bottom of the Stream window are buttons that mute the speaker, start a two-way conversation, and take pictures, record videos, and focus.

You can turn on / off the microphone by adjusting the audio configuration, adjusting the speaker volume, and deactivating the settings to reduce wind noise which reduces background noise.

The Device, Library, Mode, and Settings buttons are at the bottom of this screen. The Device button returns you to the Home screen, and the Library button returns you to the Thumbnail and Time Stamp screen to access all videos recorded by date. Use the Mode button to adjust SmartHub and voice detection settings, activate push and e-mail consultations, and add new devices. You can also set a schedule for movement, warning and disarming and geophase when leaving home to activate the hub.

Smart notifications are configured on the Settings screen, subscription changes are updated, e911 settings and user friendly settings are configured, and the order of the device screens is changed. There is also a packet detection function that sends a signal when a packet is sent. However, this feature is in beta and is not available for the first time.

Installation Process & Performance

Arlo Ultra is powered by a battery that simplifies configuration and installation. I have installed the Arlo Mobile application, but you will download the application and create an account if it is your first Arlo product. I have charged the camera battery, connected it to my router via the supplied LAN cable, and waited for the LED to turn blue for a few seconds.

In my test, Ultra gave an excellent 4K video. I zoomed my car’s license plate outside home and the details of the live video were clear and sharp. The colorful night view shows a lot of detail, but my neighbors were not eager to turn on and turn off the spotlight when traffic was detected, so I switched to the black and white night view, which was also very detailed.

The 180 degree viewing angle of the camera provides a wide coverage area for the entire front yard and some of my neighbor’s pages with very low distortion and two motion sensors respond well. Alert e-mail alerts are making good progress in identifying people, animals and vehicles. Two-way audio is good and loud, and motion tracking and automatic increase and decrease in wind sound work very well.

My Amazon Fire TV stick made it easier for me to watch ultra-videos, and my IFTTT applet was activated by Philipps Hue when he found that the Ultra gesture was working well. Ultra internal sirens are powerful enough to notify unwanted guests that they have been observed to be as strong as sirens embedded in Vivint Outdoor Camera Pro.

Conclusion

Pay for Arlo Ultra gives you a lot of exciting features. This is the first surveillance camera to test 4K video and there are no hectic steps to handle it, which shortens the installation process. Outstanding features such as motion monitoring, automatic scaling, intelligent detection, sirens, and colors, this is one of the most feature-rich outdoor wireless cameras that you can buy. Of course, you have to pay for 4K video and after your Arlo Smart Premier test ends, you pay more to access many smart camera features, but Arlo Ultra would be one’s best choice when searching for home safety cameras.
