In a detailed technical seminar, Mark Cerny, the lead system architect for PS5 and PS5 Pro, provided an in-depth analysis of the console’s architecture. He highlighted the collaboration between SIE and AMD, codenamed “Project Amethyst,” aimed at developing machine learning-based technologies to enhance graphics and gameplay. This partnership focuses on creating an optimized architecture for machine learning and developing high-quality convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for game graphics.

The PS5 Pro’s enhanced hardware facilitates more extensive use of ray tracing and path tracing, resulting in richer and more realistic game graphics. The integration of PSSR technology allows for improved image clarity and frame rates, enhancing the overall gaming experience.

Cerny emphasized that the advancements from Project Amethyst are intended to support a broad range of devices, including PCs, consoles, and cloud gaming platforms, indicating a commitment to advancing the gaming industry as a whole.
