Samsung Galaxy S9’s biggest rival is on its way

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has been teasing its next-generation flagship smartphone since a couple of months now. The company started by confirming some of its key specifications and release date earlier this year. As can be recalled, OnePlus officials confirmed that their upcoming handset would gain its power from the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip. Apart from this, the officials also further went on to reveal that the device would be introducing in the second quarter of 2018.

Therefore, most of the reports began assuming that the device would ideally be unveiled in the month of May or June. Since OnePlus hadn’t provided with an official launch date themselves, it was assumed by experts that they would be following their traditional pattern of launch. As time passed by, an increasing number of leaks giving OnePlus fans a vague idea of what to expect from the device began emerging online. It was recently revealed by OnePlus CEO and co-founder Pete Lau that the smartphone would be featuring a front notch, just like the kind that appeared on Apple’s iPhone X smartphone. By endless leaks and speculations, it is safe to say that the smartphone would be home to the same kind of hardware specifications as the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone. However, it seems like it will be carrying much larger storage onboard.

According to a report published by Android Headlines, OnePlus CEO Peter Lau confirmed on the user forum of the Chinese technology giant that their OnePlus six smartphone would pack a blasting-fast chipset. Notably, Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus smartphones are the first Android smartphones to be carrying the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip. On the storage front, the device is expected to sport an 8GB of RAM along with 256GB of internal memory. In comparison to the Galaxy S9, which only carries 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt memory, OnePlus six is offering a lot more.

According to several reports, the OnePlus six smartphone will be succeeding the OnePlus 5T device which was introducing last year. As can be recalled, last year too, OnePlus manage to surpass Samsung’s Galaxy S8 hardware specifications. Notably, the OnePlus smartphone ended up being much better as it was offering for a whopping $200 less in comparison to its arch-rival. However, the only drawback is that the OnePlus 5T smartphone did not consist of waterproofing and wireless charging capabilities. “OnePlus is likely to undercut the Galaxy S9’s $719 price tag, but some builds of the OnePlus six will probably creep up much closer to Samsung’s price due to the cost of storage,” notes the report by Android Headlines. “The top 5T variant had 128GB of storage. However, the OnePlus six is still likely to come in well under the iPhone X,” the report further adds.

The Chinese technology giant last week confirmed that the company would be following Apple iPhone X as far as bringing the front notch is concerned. They will also be reducing the screen bezels and equip the smartphone with fewer sensors. However, OnePlus fans – it seems – weren’t too pleased about the decision made about the notch. The company also revealed that OnePlus six smartphone would be carrying a bottom bezel. In other words, the upcoming smartphone is expected to sport one of the most massive screens than any of the OnePlus smartphones has ever witnessed. Lau said OnePlus has set up an R&D team to focus “solely on maximizing the power” of its flagships through tweaks targeting speed and smoothness. The company has not yet confirmed its launch date as of yet. Additional details are expected to arrive with time.
