OnePlus 5 is expected to gain Face recognition: Reports

Published on December 27, 2017

The facial recognition software has been the most sought-after feature of 2017. Apple launched its 10th-anniversary-smartphone with this feature, which serves as its major highlight as well. It is obvious that other technology giants would follow the Cupertino giant into replicating the norm of the year. Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus integrated the Face ID in its OnePlus 5T smartphone. While OnePlus 5T comes incorporated with the face unlock feature, its sibling OnePlus 5 doesn’t. There’s good news for OnePlus 5 owners as the company has confirmed that the older smartphones will receive this feature through an update.

OnePlus 5 Smartphone

OnePlus launched its 2017 flagship smartphone, OnePlus 5 a few months earlier than OnePlus 5T. According to a report by PC Magazine, OnePlus 5T comes with a facial recognition software. It is not fair for OnePlus 5 smartphone owners to be devoid of this particular feature.

It seems like the Chinese technology giant understands this problem and plans on doing something about it. OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei recently took to the official Twitter account to announce that the OnePlus 5 smartphone will be receiving a Face Unlock feature. “Due to popular demand, Face Unlock is coming for the OnePlus 5 smartphone. Thanks for the feedback and Merry Christmas,” his recent Twitter tweet reads.

Sadly, Carl Pei hasn’t provided any other details regarding the same. There is no particular timeline as to when OnePlus 5 owners can expect the feature. On the basis of speculations, however, it appears that the feature will arrive in the next couple of weeks. Furthermore, it has been predicted that the face unlocks feature on OnePlus 5 and 5T smartphone won’t be as secure and safe as Apple’s iPhone X smartphone. The feature that appears in iPhone X comes packed with the True Depth sensor, which makes detection fast and easy.
