Netflix Establishes New Video Game Studio in Finland

Published on September 28, 2022

Netflix acquired its first in-house studio, Night School Studio, a year ago this week. In March, Netflix purchased Boss Fight Entertainment and another Helsinki-based company, Next Games.

Today, Netflix announced its fourth in-house game studio, the first one it has built from the ground up rather than purchased.

Marko Lastikka has been appointed studio director for the video streaming service’s new studio in Helsinki, Finland.

Lastikka has worked in mobile game development for almost 19 years, working at Digital Chocolate and Electronic Arts before co-founding Zynga’s Helsinki studio, which developed FarmVille 3.

In announcing the new studio, Netflix VP of game studios Amir Rahimi said, “This is another step in our journey to create a world-class games studio that will provide our millions of members with addictive and entertaining, ad-free games.”

The week before last year, Netflix purchased its first in-house studio, Night School Studio. In March, it acquired Boss Fight Entertainment and Helsinki-based Next Games as its next acquisition.
