MediaTek Dimensity 9200: New Flagship Chipset Supports WiFi 7 and Ray Tracing

Published on November 8, 2022

Despite the fact that MediaTek is frequently associated with budget Android phones, it is increasingly entering the flagship market—and this new SoC might finally help it make waves in the sector.

The Dimensity 9200 SoC is claimed to be the first system-on-chip to be ready for WiFi 7, which, in addition to other things, delivers up to 6.5Gbps on-device speeds and improved reliability. A phone with a compatible network chipset and a WiFi router are required, but this theoretically improves reliability and reduces lag while delivering up to 6.5Gbps on-device speeds.

The Dimensity 9200 is said to be the first mobile chip to use an ARMv9 Gen 2 architecture. A “big” Cortex-X3 core handles the most demanding jobs, assisted by three Cortex-A715 performance cores. The Cortex-A510 low-power cores assist with battery life in addition to four Cortex-A510 performance cores. The Dimensity 9000 is said to achieve a modest 10 to 12 percent improvement in synthetic tests, but the Dimensity 9200 reportedly cuts power consumption by as much as 25 percent.

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9200 is one of the first CPUs to feature ARM’s new Immortalis-G715 GPU, which brings hardware ray tracing, three times the triangle throughput, and better efficiency. It is 32% faster than the Dimensity 9000 while consuming 41% less energy, according to MediaTek.

Hardware ray tracing, three times the triangle throughput, and lower energy consumption are all included. MediaTek notes that the 9200’s new GPU is up to 41% more efficient while making up to 32% more triangles. You can disable notifications at any time by visiting your settings menu.

The sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks are supported on the 9200 in order to offer quick mobile data in more regions. In order to obtain a brighter and sharper image, the Imagiq 890 image processor is the first to support RGBW camera sensors. The LPDDR5X memory (8.5Gbps) is the latest LPDDR5X memory (8.5Gbps), which is available with fast UFS 4.0 storage, motion blur reduction, and 24-bit/192KHz audio.

Qualcomm won’t be fazed by the launch of the first Dimensity 9200 phones by the end of 2022, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is most likely to be released at that time. MediaTek, on the other hand, may be involved in more high-end phones, which would benefit from increased choice and competition.
