This self assembly toy was bought at a science museum in Amsterdam, Holland. Supplied in a brown paper bag with the word ‘lichtbloem’ printed on the side (meaning light flower) you put the contents together to make a little fibre optic light.
The base is a clothes peg, which holds the battery and wires together. At the top of the wire is a small LED. The ping pong ball that is supplied needs to have lots of little holes made in it with the supplied pin, and you then insert short plastic fibres into each hole.
When the ping pong ball is placed over the LED, the light shines along the plastic fibres, creating little blobs of light at the end. Also, the ping pong ball is gently illuminated from the inside.
A charming little toy.
