GPM scans Hurricane Irma on Sept. 5, 2017, and again on Sept. 7, 2017, as the storm approaches Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti at Category 5 strength.
GPM is the Global Precipitation Measurement mission, jointly operated by NASA and the Japan Exploration Agency (JAXA).
