The same person also confirmed that they were responsible for last week’s major hack of ride service Uber, which has given an update on its investigations.

In a recent blog post, Uber is working with the FBI and the US Department of Justice to investigate whether the same person who hacked the video game company Rockstar Games also hacked Uber.

In Uber’s view, Lapsus$ has been particularly active over the last year and has similarly hacked several other tech firms, including Microsoft, Samsung, and NVIDIA. This year, they breached Microsoft, Samsung, and Nvidia, in addition to Uber.

Yesterday, Rockstar issued its own statement on the hack, admitting that it had suffered a “network intrusion” resulting in leaked information.

Rockstar Games said “a short-term impact on development” was “extremely disappointed,” but that there would be no “long-term effect.” No live services, such as Grand Theft Auto Online, were interrupted.

BBC News reported in March of this year on a 16-year-old from Oxford known online as “White” or “Breachbase,” one of the Lapsus$ group’s leaders.

Other hackers publicly identified ‘White’s’ real identity. He was one of seven individuals arrested by the City of London Police before all were released because the police were still investigating him.

His father, who said he was ‘shocked’ by the charges, said he was unaware of his son’s activities until recently. He said that his son, who is ‘very proficient with computers’ and spends a lot of time on his computer, has never mentioned hacking. Instead, he always thought his son was playing games.

“He must not be allowed to use a computer.”
