I’ve always been a fan of gadgetry. I’ve been inspired by a variety of Super heroes, secret agents, super geniuses to try my own hand at building some of the marvels that we only get to see on the big screen.
The Deployable Arm Shield serves to defend against attacks that a traditional shield would
while still being stealthy, compact, and portable for the user.
This project has taken over 2 months to prepare. The most challenging aspect was figuring out how to cut the materials to such a unique style and shape and how to fasten everything together with basically whatever I could find at the hardware store. I had to improvise on this prototype, but I’m happy with the end result.
My goal was to build a stealthy shield that can easily deploy and defend against harm. I wanted to bring something to life that I had only seen in movies and show people that anything is possible. Sometimes simplicity is the key.
This shield can be taken into small areas where traditional shields may be too cumbersome. It can also fit in a backpack and can be transformed to have a stealthy and sleek profile.
Personally I enjoy solving the problem of, why doesn’t this exist yet? I haven’t seen anyone else build something like this and I enjoy the challenge of doing so.
To my knowledge, this idea is unique because I brought an invention to life that has only existed in science fiction. It uses minimal materials and still serves its function to quickly deploy and provide protection
I want people to know that I worked on this project alone. I wanted to give up many times because I didn’t think I had the knowledge to have a functional prototype. Even though it has a long way to go, never let a challenge stand in your way to fulfilling your goals.
I will use the $5,000 prize to further research on this project and buy stronger material to protect against more powerful attacks. I may work with the Hacksmith – James Hobson – to add to his Exo-Skeleton as last years winner!
