The OnePlus Pad currently leads our list of the top Android tablets, but the upcoming OnePlus Pad Pro, which is anticipated to be called the OnePlus Pad 2 in the US, might soon take its place.

In a recent Weibo post (reported by WCCFTech), OnePlus has described the OnePlus Pad Pro as the most powerful Android tablet to date. While the company hasn’t confirmed the chipset specifics, earlier rumors have suggested it could feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which would justify OnePlus’ ambitious claim.

The original OnePlus Pad boasts a highly capable MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, while its closest competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, utilizes the similarly powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Most of the top Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and OnePlus 12, are powered by the latest Qualcomm flagship silicon, so it’s logical that OnePlus would consider equipping the OnePlus Pad 2 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the US.

Interestingly, recent tests have shown the new MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ to be the most powerful Android chipset currently available, suggesting OnePlus might be referencing this chipset in its marketing instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Moreover, MediaTek chipsets typically cost less than Qualcomm’s, which would help OnePlus keep the OnePlus Pad 2 affordably priced if they choose the Dimensity 9300+.

Nonetheless, it’s more probable that OnePlus will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the OnePlus Pad 2, given its prominence in the US market.

Regarding additional details about the OnePlus Pad 2 – which is set to be unveiled on June 27 – leaked Weibo images suggest it will look almost identical to the OnePlus Pad, though improvements in battery and camera are expected.

For context, the OnePlus Pad features a 9,510mAh battery and two cameras: a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. Other specifications include an 11.6-inch LCD display with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support, up to 256GB of storage, and up to 12GB of RAM. With its high-resolution display, large battery, and competitive pricing, the OnePlus Pad is already a strong rival to the iPad 10.9 (2022). Hopefully, the OnePlus Pad 2 will further challenge the best iPads when it launches later this month.
