Published on October 4, 2021

William Shatner is going to space for real this time. He will be hopping aboard Blue Origin’s second tourist spaceflight. The flight is scheduled for the 12th of this month. The legendary Star Trek actor is going to be taking a trip about Blue Origin’s New Shepard transportation system.

Shatner is 90 years old, so as long as everything goes according to plan, he will be the oldest person to ever go to space. That soon-to-be-broken record is currently held by Wally Funk, an 82-year-old aviation pioneer.

Audrey Powers, the company’s vice president of mission and flight operations, will be accompanying William Shatner on the flight. Blue Origin has also mentioned that the co-founder of Planet Labs, Chris Boshuizen will also be the flight.

The next New Shepard flight will be on hold until the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) looks into some safety concerns that current and former employees have brought to light in a joint essay last week. There have also been some rather dramatic allegations that involve attempts to silence internal critics and sexual harassment.
