Over 500,000 million PS4 Pro units sold in Japan alone: Report

Published on December 21, 2017

Media Create recently released the sales data for Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro and turns out; the company has managed to make a sale of over 500,000 units in the first thirteen months alone. This data is only limited to the Japanese market. According to a report by Game Transfer, Sony managed to sell off precisely 511,255 of PS4 Pro consoles sold in Japan until December 17, 2017. For those who aren’t aware, Sony introduced the gaming console roughly 13 months back in December 2016. What’s even more baffling is that the data provided by Media Create is only the representation of approximately 8.85 per cent of the total PlayStation 4 sold in the market.

In comparison to the previous years, the numbers cannot be considered as being high. The console represented a premium nature and given that it belongs to the high-end market and competes with Xbox One X by Microsoft, there was much more expected from it regarding performance. However, Sony has gone all out when it comes to the marketing of the gaming console.

One of the many reasons why consumers still prefer to purchase gaming consoles offered by Sony is because of the exclusive gaming titles that may or may not come along with the device for free. Take, for example, the Monster Hunter World. Over 33,000 players purchased the gaming console only because they wanted to get their hands on the gaming title.

Sale numbers for Sony’s other gaming consoles have also been released. The PlayStation 4 for that matter, has managed to reach a sale of roughly 5,775,515 units in Japan. This is followed by PlayStation Vita, which has sold over 5,765,869 units in total. “In recent weeks, there is a growing interest in the types of equipment of Sony. On average, about 70-80 thousand pieces of PS4 are sold per week. Sales of PS Vita are weak, but this is happening for understandable reasons,” reports Game Transfer.
