Israeli authorities have seen an upsurge in wolf encounters in the country’s Judean Desert.

Wildlife experts believe there is a 20-wolf pack that lives between Masada and Ein Gedi, two tourist attractions. Ten incidents have been reported since May, many of which have involved children. Wildlife experts say the wolves have become more acclimatized to humans as they scour campsites for food.

Rangers are now attempting to “re-instill fear” by using stinging pepper powder pellets and traps. They hope to modify wolves’ behavior, instead of resorting to more drastic and deadlier measures.
