With the entire world watching the 2016 Rio Olympics, many have taken to social media to discuss what’s been happening…and boy has it been crazy! One topic of conversation is the giant dark circles spotted on olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps and his fellow competitors.
#2 Cup Therapy
Well it turns out they were not mugged while in Brazil, but it’s actually the aftermath of an ancient chinese healing technique which many athletes use during the Olympics. The cupping phenomenon involves a doctor placing cups on skin and using heat to create suction. This suction separates the skin from the muscle…basically the same effect as a hickey!
#3 The Price Of Being An Olympian
The cups speed up recovery time for sore and achy body parts, giving the athletes a better chance at performing well for their next event. The only side effect are these large dark circles, which we’re sure will leave in a few days. Hey, gotta do anything you can to win that gold medal right?
