We Are Destroying Nature At Record Pace04:33

Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when we’ve used all the natural resources Earth can regenerate each year—this year it came on the earliest day yet.

Humanity is exhausting the Earth’s resources at a record rate. You know what would help slow that rate? Fewer humans.

There are a few ways that this could be achieved. Massive, Trump-induced World War could ensue, killing millions, but the aftereffects of something like that could linger for generations. A superbug epidemic could wipe out a sizable portion of the population, The Stand-style, minus the weird God/Satan part in the second half of the book. That’s honestly Earth’s best bet.

If we wanted to help reduce the strain on Earth’s resources without war and pestilence, people could consider having fewer children. It’s a radical concept, the idea that it’s environmentally in our best interests, as a human race, to allow women everywhere, in all parts of the world, to access effective and low-cost birth control, thus controlling the size of their families and limiting environmental strain. But what do I know. I’m just a ghost that writes blogs.
