Caterpillar Group President Rich Lavin talks about three major factors driving the need for infrastructure development: Urbanization, economic factors and industrial growth. In the developing world, there is a strong need for fundamental development. In the past 20-25 years the growth of infrastructure in China, for example, has occurred at an explosive rate with new highways, high-speed rail systems, airports and seaports. In the developed world, there is a need for maintenance and redevelopment. Customers expect Caterpillar to know what they need to be successful. As a result, we are increasing capacity and investing in segmented product programs to ensure that Cat® Products add value regionally.
