U.S. Marines assigned to 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct physical endurance tests on land and water with French Marines assigned to 110th Infantry Regiment, French and German Brigade aboard General Briere de L’Isle Base in Djibouti, Africa, May 22, 2013. The physical endurance tests were a portion of the screening for the French Marine’s Desert Survival Combat Course, a 10 day bilateral training event that teaches participants how to survive in the desert. The 26th MEU is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations as part of Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group. The 26th MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, sea based quick reaction force.
