Footage of Fire Support Specialists from “A” Company, 1-35 Armored Regiment, 2-1 Armored Division recently participated in an “Artillery Live Fire” at White Sands Missile Range, NM. After receiving an operational order, they’ll move tactically though the range while also calling for artillery fire. The cannons shoot inert as well as high explosive rounds at designated targets downrange. This exercise is part of the “Network Integration Evaluation” which examines new devices that industry has produced to meet perceived needs of modern soldiers and to ensure it performs as advertised. During this exercise, the Fire Support Specialists are trying to push fire missions digitally through a new type of network. It’s the mission of 2-1 Armored Division, to test the gear using tactics, techniques, and procedures common to the army to get a complete picture of how the systems will work. They have the ability to replicate all 3 types of Army reconnaissance units, Heavy, Stryker and Light. This helps to create an operational environment, like those in Iraq and Afghanistan to see if the equipment is truly useful on today’s battlefield as well as in future fights. Video by Staff Sgt. Bernardo Fuller | 16th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
