Lisa Gade reviews the Toshiba Encore, a 8″ Windows 8.1 tablet running on the new Intel Atom Bay Trail quad core Z3740 1.33GHz CPU. Like the Dell Venue 8 Pro and Lenovo Miix 2 8, the tablet has a 1280 x 800 IPS touch screen, and 2 gigs of RAM and 32 or 64 gigs of eMMC solid state storage. Unlike those two tablets, the Encore has a micro HDMI port so you don’t have to rely on Micracast wireless display. The Toshiba weighs just under a pound and it has dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a front camera and rear 8MP camera. The tablet runs full Windows and is compatible with legacy Windows desktop programs. It starts at $329.
