Toothpick Crossbows: Sillier than Fidget Spinners?

Toothpick crossbows replaced fidget spinners as the latest “must have” toy item in China. The cheap little shooters were everywhere. Concerned parents complained so much that the Chinese government banned these thingies and confiscated plenty of brand new products from dealerships.
Are toothpick shooters dangerous indeed? Is it hard to make them at home? Is there a “Magnum” version?
