Robots in disguise! The U.S. Army Research Lab is experimenting with a hybrid drone that is capable of tilting its rotors to transition from hovering like a helicopter, to fixed-wing flight — similar to the mechanics of a V-22 Osprey fighter jet.

This revolutionary design could also allow for higher speeds than traditional drones.

The final product will weigh less than a pound and be less than 10 inches long. It’ll also feature the ability to sense its environment, allowing soldiers to interact with it in the field and using its cameras for surveillance.

The Army hopes this flexible drone will provide the edge needed to survive and win on the battlefield.
