This competition brings new meaning to the term “spousal support.”
At the 18th annual North American Wife Carrying Championship in Newry, Maine, contestants hauled their spouses through water and over obstacles across a 278-yard course. Winners receive two cases of beer and a check for five times the wife’s weight (yes, you can ask). One woman decided to carry her husband instead, but it got a little messy.
A Virginia couple won the race in 58 seconds. They will now travel to Finland to compete for the world title. Must be the strength of true love.
