In this episode of Speed Daemons, host Derek Mead immerses himself in the underground culture of Los Angeles street racing. Taking an unexpected approach to this subject, we focus less on the legality of this LA pastime and more on the craftsmanship and inventiveness of how they build their cars. Taking a wider look, we use this subculture to understand how the urban landscape of Los Angeles created an environment ripe for a dystopian-like nightlife, where its streets are being repurposed for racing Frankenstein cars at speeds over 100 miles an hour.
