When we started Night-Flying back in the early 70’s, there were no LED’s that would work, so we depended on the FAA rules and used red, green, and white lights. We used to say if you can see your plane, then it isn’t dark enough.! Today everybody lights up their planes, making them beautiful all right, but sometime can confuse the pilot. In the ‘70’s, we didn’t have much choice for lights, so sometimes we used chemical, but mostly 5v Bulbs were used. FAA rules works for real planes, so logically it made sense for “standing on the ground” pilots to tell which way their or other’s planes are going.
Me? I like the challenge.
The wing lights I used run on a 9v battery for quite a few safe flights and are made from strips of modern LED’s from Walmart) This makes for “Classic” fun flying in the dark….the real dark!

Thanks kindly for watching.
