The First Sovereign Space Nation Is The Size Of A Shoebox04:33

This shoebox-sized satellite has 115,000 “citizens.”

The Asgardia-1 satellite was launched into space aboard the Cygnus spacecraft — and some claim it’s the first ever sovereign space nation. It’s the brainchild of billionaire Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli, who also doubles as Asgardia’s Head of Nation. Earthlings can sign up to be citizens, with the distant hope of one day colonizing territories in space.

But this tiny, “sovereign nation” only contains a hard drive with the country’s constitution, flag, and data from the first citizens. It will dock on ISS before being launched into orbit next month. No word yet on if any Martians are interested in becoming citizens.
