Its origins go back to 1904 when Francesc Moragas founded the institution, Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez, along with a number of entities from Catalan civil society to encourage savings and pensions. Today it may seem a purely financial initiative, but within that historical context of social instability it offered hitherto unheard of assistance for those people at greatest disadvantage.
