Tesla Is Moving Its Center Of Operations To California

So, Tesla is apparently doing much more than just building a factory in Texas. In fact, it’s also moving its company headquarters to Austin. This was announced at Tesla’s recent annual shareholder meeting where Elon Musk also explained that Tesla will continue to expand production at its California half again (50 percent more). He then elaborated a bit on the difficulties in expanding past a certain point in the Bay Area. citing high home prices that leads to long commutes for workers.

This has been a long time coming. Elon has already threatened to move Tesla’s headquarters to California as a result of the way the state handled the coronavirus lockdowns. He ended up personally relocated from LA to Austin a little after that. It’s important to note that because of outdated laws in Texas, Tesla is now headquartered in a state where it is not allowed to sell its cars to the public.

Texas has no personal income tax, so with Elon moving out there, he will be paying less taxes. California, on the other hand, has one of the highest income tax rates in the United States. Also, Texas has been offering businesses tax breaks in order to attract more industry to the state.
