SUCH a simple idea, I’m surprised it hasn’t been done before! We loaded shells with a small wad of steel wool on top of the powder to create “poor man’s dragon breath” rounds. The sparks traveled quite far, nearly 40 yards. Not bad for something you probably have in the cupboard under the kitchen sink!
