While flying delivery drones seem to be the way of the future, a more practical approach to last mile package delivery is being developed by a company called Starship Technologies.
Their six-wheeled rolling delivery drone travels along sidewalks and can carry up to 25 pounds. Sure that isn’t as awesome sounding as packages flying through the air, but package delivery isn’t about awesomeness, it’s about being practical. There are fewer legal hurdles since these drones can’t fall out of the sky, and they can haul heavier packages than UAV delivery systems.
15 of Starship Technologies Delivery Drones are being tested in 3 cities worldwide, and they deliver on average 80 packages a day.
