Aboard the International Space Station, Expedition 44 Flight Engineers Kimiya Yui of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Scott Kelly and Kjell Lindgren of NASA discussed their mission on the orbital outpost with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japanese government officials and former and current Japanese astronauts during an in-flight call Aug. 26. Yui and Lindgren will remain on the station until late December, conducting scientific research and station maintenance activities. Kelly is in the fifth month of a year-long mission on the station to gather valuable biomedical data about the effect of long periods of weightlessness on the human body that will be used to help formulate the planning for a future mission to Mars.
