US, Hellenic and Canadian navy conduct a live fire sink exercise on the decommissioned ships.

►00:00 Canadian Navy sub HMCS Victoria sinks U.S. Navy ship USNS Concord as part of a live-fire exercise in the Pacific on 7/17/2012. The Victoria fired one MK-48 torpedo.

►02:03 Sinking the USS O Bannon DD-987. Originally scheduled to remain in service through 2010, decommissioning of the Spruance-class destroyers was accelerated as a cost-saving measure, and by June 2005 O’Bannon was the last Spruance destroyer in service in the Atlantic Fleet.

O’Bannon was decommissioned on 19 August 2005 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register the same day. In 2004 O’Bannon was to be sold to Chile, but in 2005 she was scheduled to be transferred via FMS to the Turkish Navy. In the end she was sunk off the coast of Virginia at 3:23pm on 6 October 2008 in a training exercise by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower carrier group, using missiles, guns and finally a Mk 82 bomb.

►04:44 On May 29 2006 two Hellenic / Greek navy Super Vita-type FAC(M)s, the HS Rousen (P-67) and HS Daniolos (P-68), each fired one MBDA MM-40 Block 2 Exocet Surface-to-Surface missile against HS Nearchos (D-219), the former USS Waddell DDG-24, a decommissioned Charles F. Adams Class guided missile destroyer.

►06:35 The Japanese fishing vessel, Ryou-Un Maru, is sunk in the Gulf of Alaska after receiving significant damage from the Coast Guard Cutter Anancapa crew firing explosive ammunition into it 180 miles west of the Southeast Alaskan coast April 5, 2012. The crew was successful and sank the vessel at 6:15 p.m. in 6,000 feet of water by using explosive ammunition and filling it with water.
