What happens when silly putty is propelled at almost Mach 2?
An amazing demonstration of how silly putty behaves when put under the enormous stress of being shot out of a gun. I used copy machine toner to make the normally pink silly putty black. It did not show up very well on camera when it was pink.
The putty is a type of non-newtonian fluid – behaving like a thick fluid at rest, but becomes rigid when dropped or hit. You will notice that the slug retains its original shape after it is fired. The slug is travelling at close to 2000 feet per second.
