Satellite Analyzes Rainfall in Hurricanes Maria, Jose04:33

On Sept. 18, 2017, the Global Precipitation Measurement mission, or GPM, core satellite found rain falling at a rate of more than 6.44 inches (163.7 mm) per hour in powerful storms that reached above 9.7 miles (15.7 km). Shades of green to red represent liquid precipitation extending down to the ground. GPM is a joint mission of NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
