Samsung Galaxy S9 Features & Specifications: Rumours & Expectations

Published on February 11, 2018

Just two weeks are remaining for the launch of this year’s first most significant start in the smartphone industry. Yes, we are talking about Samsung’s upcoming flagship of Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. The launch with being on the very first day of Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) going to held in Barcelona, Spain from February 25.

The Galaxy S9 series is in high buzz, and almost every tech geek is awaiting the launch of this smartphone. Here we have listed some ideas about the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus which can get fulfilled by Samsung at MWC 2018.

1. Camera Capabilities

As the teaser ad launched by Samsung defines the upcoming flagship as “The Camera, Reimagined.” Samsung is expected to bring a dual camera setup on the rear section of Galaxy S9 Plus during a single camera setup in the smaller one.

It is also expected that the device will come with the camera specification which can beat the camera features of Apple’s lastly launched iPhone X.

2. Fingerprint Sensor Placement

Just after the launch of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, rumours for the S9 series started arriving in news and highlight. The placement of fingerprint sensor was one of the most anticipated topics among all. And that figures where the fingerprint scanner would be present. Most of the tech geek predicted that the placement will be at the back panel of the smartphone and will undoubtedly be under a rectangular block which contains a dual-camera setup and a fingerprint reader.

But, according to me, Samsung won’t do this with its upcoming flagship. As you all might be aware that Vivo launched the world’s first in-display fingerprint scanner smartphone at CES 2018 so how can we say that a brand like Samsung will leave its technology behind. Samsung may launch its upcoming series with an in-display fingerprint sensor. If this goes true, then this will surely boost up the sales of this flagship.

3. Hi-tech Unlock System

There could also be the presence of a hi-tech unlocking system which will use both Iris and Face scanning. As we all know that Apple is currently ruling the smartphone market with its newly launched iPhone X that comes with the Face ID (Facial Recognition unlocking).

If this idea of screen unlock goes right with the upcoming S9 series, then Samsung would be the first one to introduce such a kind of technology in the industry. Launching something new and unique brings attention, and that makes a product itself a brand. Samsung may challenge thus unlocking feature with the flagship of the year 2018.

4. New Colors

As we all know that every year Samsung introduces some new colour variants to its flagship smartphone to make them more attractive. This year also it is expected that Samsung will launch a new colour to its Galaxy S9 series and that is Lilac Purple and Coral Blue. Color options other than just bold black and proper white creates a good attraction of buyers, and that’s what Samsung keep in mind every time.

5. Invisible Notch

As seen in Apple’s iPhone X there was the presence of a small notch which is carrying all the necessary sensors and components. Samsung will be introducing its Galaxy S9 and S9+ with an invisible notch. That will create an extensive look of the smartphone.

6. Animoji

Samsung might be upgrading the trend of emoji’s to Animoji’s just like Apple did with its iPhone X. But we can also expect that Samsung may do it in some different manner. Samsung is pretty much thought to beat the sales of iPhone X, and for that motive, it may launch something new and unique than just Animoji. But as of now it is pretty much confirmed that Samsung will be introducing Animoji’s in its flagship of the current year, i.e., 2018.

7. Bezelless Display

The bezel-less display is in trend nowadays. Almost everyone smartphone company is introducing the same to raise the looks of the handsets and to increase the attraction. Even Xiaomi launched many of its smartphones under mid-range of price with the pretty-less bezel on display screen.

Samsung will also be following the trend by introducing the bezel-less display. It is also predicted that the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will be carrying less bezel on upper and lower portion as compared to the last year’s flagship of Samsung.

When it comes to the design and physical appearance of the smartphone, Samsung is introducing similar design from past two years, and this year also the design will be casual and resemble the design of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

Samsung might be following the same physical appearance pattern for its Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. For exact confirmation of features and specifications, we need to wait till February 25.
