Russia Caught Faking News With Video Game Stills04:33

Sometimes, propaganda backfires — as was the case in this Russian attempt.

The Russian Ministry of Defense posted images purporting to show “irrefutable evidence” of U.S. support for ISIS militants. This would be major news…if it wasn’t for one problem.

The pictures were actually taken from a video game, “AC-130 Gunship Simulator.” In addition to images from the game, Russia actually tried to use American Iraq footage from 2016 to prove the claims.

The Ministry quickly deleted the posts, as did various state-owned outlets, but it was too little too late. This isn’t the first time Russia was caught faking news; and now, Russian citizens are calling their own government “stupid,” “idiotic,” and “liars.”
