Researchers Develop Regenerative Medicine Breakthrough
“Researchers at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Ohio State’s College of Engineering have developed a new technology, Tissue Nanotransfection (TNT), that can generate any cell type of interest for treatment within the patient’s own body.”
Skin Cells Turned Into Sperm
“Scientists in Spain have created human sperm from skin cells, a medical feat which could eventually lead to a treatment for infertility. The researchers said they were working to find a solution for the roughly 15 percent of couples worldwide who are unable to have children and whose only option is to use donated sperm or eggs.”
Major ‘Milestone’ Realized in Quest to Transform Stem Cells Into Blood Cells
“Human embryonic stem cells – generic cells which, as the embryo develops, gradually differentiate – were first isolated in 1998. A decade later, scientists figured out how to generate another type of all-purpose cell from human skin, known as induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS. These were successfully used to make neurons and heart cells.”
