09/11/2012 – The more than 200 people with direct ties to Massachusetts who died on Sept. 11, 2001 will be remembered as the state joins the nation in marking the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

The names of the victims will be read during a ceremony outside the Statehouse on Tuesday.

The event will be followed by the presentation of the annual Madeline Amy Sweeney award for bravery, named for a flight attendant on one of the two planes that were hijacked from Logan International Airport and flown into the World Trade Center.

Later Tuesday, the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund will gather on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway to put together care packages that will be sent to Bay State residents serving overseas in the armed forces.
