Widespread power outages in the wake of Hurricane Maria have ravaged Puerto Rico. But one flower nursery is already back in business, thanks to a $300,000 investment in solar power.

Hector Santiago installed 244 solar panels six years ago to power his 40-acre business. While the Category 5 hurricane did damage his property, the solar panels remained largely intact and were able to keep water pumps going during the storm.

With Puerto Rico’s electrical grid demolished, many in the country see a growing market for renewable energy. Santiago can tell you firsthand that it worked for him.
