Well, maybe not beats up but Psy did just surpass Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ music video views on YouTube. Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ just made social media history. This music video reached over 806 million views, and earned the title of the most popular video on YouTube. Admit it, we have all watched it at least one time.
Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ made its YouTube debut on July 15, 2012. Currently, it has received 5,376,548 likes and 325,829 dislikes. Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ introduction to YouTube was in February of 2010 and currently has 803,847,584 views. At this time, Bieber’s video has 1,438,944 likes and 3,193,761 dislikes.
Both musicians are under the same music label. Therefore, Island Records are not going to be upset over the recent historic social media discovery. Psy signed with Island Records on Sept. 4, 2012. Island Records also represents Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez and many other famous musicians.
Psy and his management team have been mostly hands-off when it comes to fan-made parodies and remakes. There is even a Mitt Romney Gangnam Style with over 23 million views. There is also an Obama Gangnam Style with over 4 million views. There are tons of parodies out there using ‘Gangnam Style’ in their own creative version.
With all that being said, Psy has not beat Bieber on other social media platforms. Psy’s account has over 1.3 million followers, while Bieber has over 30 million followers. Will Psy ever catch up to Bieber on social media? It is a possibility. We are excited to see more of both entertainers regardless.
