Hanson Robotics brings to you an education robot to teach you the basics of science. In the form of the renowned Germany physicist and scientist, Albert Einstein, the education robot can answer a variety of scientific questions, by sending your question as encrypted data to Hanson Robotic’s cloud network. The doll currently costs $249 on eBay, and will go on sale on Amazon August 6th for $299.

In theory, the Professor Einstein robot sounds like a fun idea, but in practice, it feels clunky and has a slow response time. We found that you often have to repeat questions, and the robot sits in an uncanny valley that we found just a little creepy at times.

Where the doll shines, is not in the doll itself, but the Stein-O-Matic app, which is available on iOS and Android. At the moment, though, the robot just doesn’t work well enough to justify a price tag of $299 — we’ll stick to Alexa for now.
