My good friend and past DirtFish Rally School instructor Ian Alexander is now working for an amazing company that builds really high end racing simulators for both actual race car drivers that need to practice and sim racing enthusiasts. These simulators start at about $12k and go all the way up to $80+k USD and the primary focus of these simulators is to get as close to reality as possible with the available power coming out of your wall.

The simulator that I’m reviewing in this video is one of there older models and sits at about $40k as equipped if you wanted to buy one. It’s a full motion system based on D-BOX technology and the simulator houses a 9 speaker sound system including tune subwoofer under the seat and multiple very large transducers throughout the rig that make my buttkicker look like a party favor.

The sound system is beyond amazing, the majority of the simulator is built from wood so that that the motion transfer and sound resonate perfectly to give you the feeling that you’re actually sitting in a car and it does a damn fine job of doing it. Also the motion is so perfectly smooth and coordinated with the video on the screens and the controls that your brain can actually use the input constructively and it’s not just a passive effect to make thing more interesting.

The screens on this thing are amazing, they are so much brighter then my 46″ screens I have at home and they are commercial panels (not just HDTV’s) and are designed to work well in very bright lighting and out doors which is freaking amazing. I can’t translate in this video just how smooth the motion is on this machine and just how aggressive it can become based on the amount of input it receives from the game.

The 500 watt sound system built into this thing is amazingly loud and clear, not only that but it’s custom and isn’t Dolby or DTS they re-mix the audio coming into the simulator and give you full control over how you want to feel that sound in each range. And you can even setup different audio settings for each car and track you have and they are quickly accessible by buttons on the dashboard.

And last but not least I was wondering if this would be to loud to have upstairs in the Man Cave so we turned down all the auidio and bass on the unit and just left the motion enabled the machine is whisper quiet! Even when it’s lifting the whole sim up or slamming it forward under heavy braking it’s absolutely quiet and silent, I have no idea how this is even possible. But you can bet your ass I’m going to try and save up and get one of these at some point in my life 😛
