If you ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a video game character who is a Syrian refugee, then you should play “Path Out.”

The game was created by Abdullah Karam, a Syrian refugee who’s one of the 5 million people who have fled the country because of an ongoing civil war. When Karam refused to join the army, he was forced to flee to Europe in 2014.

He teamed up with German developer Causa Creations to produce the Japanese-style roleplaying game, which features Karam as the protagonist and his family members as other characters. Players must escape the war-torn country and find a path to safety and freedom.

Karam believes that by playing his immersive game, users can better understand the consequences of war and violence.
