President Obama’s motorcade pulled past cow pastures and razor wire in central Oklahoma on Thursday morning, as he became the first sitting president to visit a federal prison.

As part of his push for criminal justice reform, Obama toured the El Reno Correctional Facility, a medium security prison that once housed Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and is home to 1,300 male inmates convicted of federal crimes. While there, Obama met with inmates and stepped inside a 9 ft. by 10 ft. prison cell.

The visit is the latest in a campaign that Obama kicked into high gear this week to address flaws and inequalities in the nation’s court system.
