Nutnfancy SHOT Show: ARSENAL AKs!04:33

Come on along for an exciting visit to the ARSENAL booth, ala Nutnfancy style, at the 2010 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. If you are like me, you will come away from this Arsenal visit wanting one of these AKs. Our host is Arsenal Sales Director Walker English. He speaks with authority of his AKs and demonstrates the impressive quality levels achieved in the Arsenal AK-variants. The previously-discussed AK vs AR-15 considerations still are applicable but the AK with its amazing reliability, toughness, simplicity, and COOL factor holds MUCH attraction (for me too). Shown in the video are the ARSENAL SGL21-72 (very cool plum colored stock set, NATO length), SGL21-63 (equally cool OD stocks, NATO), SLR 106-33 (5.56×45, in photo), SA RPK-7 (wow, which they could make it, expect it be $$$ if they do though), the gorgeous blond wood equipped SA and SAS M-7 Classics (milled receivers, flawless execution, expensive!), Bulgarian SLR106-34 (skeleton folding stock, Warsaw length), SLR 107-F (side folding 7.62x39mm AK-variant, seen in my AK vs AR-15 vids!), SLR106-31 (full stock, Warsaw length), SGL31 varieties (5.45×39.5mm, Warsaw Pact length stocks), and some others. What makes the Arsenals stand out? Quality, attention to detail, and observation of many of the AK/AKM design features that ensure longevity, accuracy, and higher levels of authenticity. Produced in conjunction with the Izhmash custom shop, Legion, Arsenal remanufactures these guns in Las Vegas, NV to full 922r compliancy (huge selling point) and will have no magazine restrictions (join NRA, fight against such stupid laws!). The Arsenal AK-variants listed above have: dimpled receiver for magazine stability, reinforcing “X” and “Y” stampings on receiver pin holes (shown in vid), proper forearm, upper handguard and pistol grip, high quality US-made AK fire control group with extended disconnector tail to prevent trigger slap (and easily accepting aftermarket alternatives like the excellent Tapco G2 trigger), correct gas tube and block (with vent holes), receiver detents for safety lever, bayonet-capable front sight block with muzzle, super quality Arsenal-made AK-74 style of muzzle brake on 24×1.5mm RH threading), integral cleaning rod, AK-style gas block with vent holes, and standard AK magazine capability (made possible by correct bullet guide). Fit and finish is superb just as Walker shows us and has been proven in previous Nutnfancy reviews. As discussed, I remain somewhat unenamored with the thinner profile barrel of Russian AKs but the fact is this thin .30 caliber barrel still gets the job done. And it is one reason the listed weight on these guns is so reasonable: just 7.15 lbs (I will confirm this later). The 7.62x39mm SGL21s AKs shown here are my favorite (with cool stock colorations and their NATO length) but the SGL31s are equally impressive and currently might be the more affordable shooting choice (subject to change!). Truly amazing to me were the M-7 Classics and SA RPK-7s with their high quality blond wood and milled receivers. Mr. English describes the cost and parts challenges in assembling and marketing these guns. Expect high cost if and when they become available. We say high to TNP fan and ARSENAL employee Nicole along the way and then manage to take a look at the Arsenal Kalishnikov AK-74 tribute rifles (amazing). The in-depth discussion continues as we amble over to the K-VAR accessories case and we look at some high quality, indispensable options including the K-VAR AK Maintenance (spring) kit, Bulgarian bayonet (oh yeah), Bulgarian Double Circle 10 steel-reinforced magazines (love them), and the Elevation Wrench. I also note how ARSENAL is a huge NRA supporter. Walker did an outstanding job at hosting a quality booth review.
