Published on July 8, 2017

We go hands-on – or should that be face-on – with Welcome, a new smart security camera from Netatmo. This metallic tower keeps track of everyone coming and going from your home. Facial recognition technology lets you identify friends and family embers – and intruders.

Recombu hits the stands at CES 2015 to check out Netatmo’s Welcome, a new breed of smart security camera. The 1080p Full HD camera is enhanced with facial recognition technology, which allows the Welcome unit to identify friendly faces. Parents can be sent notifications when the kids get home from school and carers can keep an eye on patients. Welcome will also alert you when it spots a new or unfamiliar face. You’ll be pinged a notification when this happens, letting you know if it’s a welcome guest or an unwelcome visitor.

Thanks to an infrared sensor, the Full HD camera is also capable of recording video at night as well, making it an effective tool against burglars. Video files are stored locally on an SD card, meaning there’s no danger of footage of your home being leaked to the Internet in the event of a nude selfies iCloud hack-type event.

There’s no word on a price for one of these yet but we should know more soon enough. Netatmo says that Welcome will be on sale by the summer of 2015.
