NASA invited social media users from across the country to help cover the launch of the agency’s Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) — the second of NASA’s five Earth science missions to launch in 2014. The event took place at the Space Launch Complex 2 at Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) in Lompoc, California with approximately 70 selected social media users in an effort to align the experience of social media representatives with those of traditional media. Participants were invited to view the launch of the United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket, get a behind-the-scenes tour of Vandenberg Air Force Base and learn about the science and engineering behind the OCO-2 mission.
