NASA dropped a Cessna 172 from 100 feet onto a concrete pad in order to test the ability of emergency locator transmitters to survive a crash.

The test took place on July 29 at the Langley Landing and Impact Research Facility in Hampton, Virginia. This is one part of what will eventually be three crash tests. With the information, the team plans on “developing next-gen search and rescue technology as part of an international effort involving members from 43 countries and organizations” to more easily find downed aircraft.
