Hey Nerdgasm fans, this was a interesting and hard video for me to do. It all started when a guy named Tyler who owns a small company named Mayflower Electronics contacted me after I did my review of the Woo Audio WA7 Fireflies headphone amplifier. He told me in not so many words that I was full of it and being taken advantage of or ripped off by Woo Audio. He was very passionate so I talked to him on Skype for a while and he explained a lot about audio and headphones. He offered to send me a set a set of headphones, amp and dac to review stating that his setup under $300 was better then the $1000 Woo Audio WA7 fireflies. I decided to take him up on his offer and when I received the amp in the mail looked were deceiving. I couldn’t figure out how something so light weight with such a small power block could produce better results then the fireflies which has a giant power brick and weighs a ton.

This was one of the times in my life when I’ve truly been amazed by how easily you can judge a book by its cover. The Objective 2 amp is amazing, it has zero noise or distortion at 100% volume and can push all of my headphones even high impedance to ear shattering volume without distorting. When I compared the Woo Audio amp to it side by side switching back and forth with equal volume I could not tell the difference, there was no change in the audio quality or frequencies that I could tell. When I switched to my Xonar Essence STX I could hear the additional noise at high volume and the sound quality felt a little different and lacking. It’s amazing to see a less than $300 setup actually being better sounding then the $1000 setup. Plus it had many other pros which I will talk about in the video over the fireflies. I’m starting to see that there is more to being an Audiophile then blowing a lot of money. I’m starting to think at least in the headphone world that some of these audio companies might be price gouging just a bit too much.

Now from an aesthetics standpoint the WA7 looks amazing, the quality of the components are top notch and it’s like jewelry for your desktop. And the sound quality on it is amazing! But I kinda of feel like it’s a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 where as the Objective 2 is like a Nissan GTR. The Lambo is fast, amazing, beautiful but costs 3 times more then the GTR but the GTR will outrun it all day long. Both are absolutely amazing cars but one is technically better for less money where as the other one is more beautiful.

The video probably doesn’t show it but this video took over a week to make because I had to keep jumping back and forth between the amps trying to grasp and find a difference but I failed. I was secretly hoping that the Objective 2 and the DAC would show some sign of weakness where the Fireflies just soared high above but besides aesthetics they both performed beautifully and the Objective 2 setup did it for a fraction of the cost, much less space on my desk, much more serviceable parts and better compatibility and drivers. How can you look away from that?

I will be buying the AMP and DAC from Tyler after posting this video and keeping it. I personally didn’t like the warm sound of the T50RP headphones but they were still an amazing product for what they were designed to be but I will be sending those back since I already have so many other headphones that produce a sound that is more to my liking for gaming and music.

I hope you enjoyed this video, I know it was a little off from my normal videos but this was really difficult to review because it was so freaking good and kept making me regret spending $1000 for something because I honestly thought it was needed to drive very expensive headphones and it turns out that was a myth!
